I joined Reazon to challenge myself in a new career path.
Ms. Takahashi, who is currently thriving in the Corporate Planning Division, could you please share about your career journey so far?
After graduating from university, I joined one of the BIG4 audit firms and worked in financial statement audit services. After three years, I transitioned to a global consulting firm known for strong risk management, where I handled a wide range of tasks including internal control implementation, governance establishment, business process improvement, ERM implementation, and data analytics. Concurrently, I also served as a lecturer at a graduate school teaching about internal controls.
After about ten years there and the birth of my two children prompting a reevaluation of my work-life balance, I made a career change to become the Internal Audit Director at a major beverage manufacturer. There, I was involved in organizational design, strategic planning, talent development, and achieving transformation in the next-generation audit organization.
You've had a long career in audit! What led you to transition to Reazon?
I felt I had mostly achieved my career goals in internal audit and internal controls and wanted to gain experience outside of these areas. I saw this as my last chance to completely change careers and began looking at companies, especially focusing on venture firms. I was attracted to the dynamic pace of joining organizations during their startup phase, where I could bring energy and drive business transformation firsthand. It was during this job search that Reazon's Audit Lead reached out to me.
What was the deciding factor for you to join Reazon?
Meeting with the employees here left me with a positive impression of their character and the company culture. Additionally, experiencing the latest technologies like VR at an international internal audit conference sparked my interest in Web3.0, and the opportunity to work in that field was very appealing.
You mentioned reevaluating work-life balance during childcare. How has Reazon been in that regard?
Reazon supports working mothers, so I haven't had any major concerns. I've focused on optimizing my time management, shifting my lifestyle to early mornings. When emergencies like a child's illness require me to leave suddenly, I can consult with them without any issue, thanks to their understanding of balancing work and parenting.
To collaborate with each department and swiftly resolve internal issues.
It sounds like the opportunity to explore new fields and the company culture were pivotal in your decision to join. Could you tell us about the mission of the Corporate Planning Division you're a part of?
Our mission is to identify and resolve any issues that arise within the company. This involves acting as a hub that connects various departments to tackle a wide range of challenges such as establishing overseas subsidiaries, implementing invoicing systems and process improvements in accounting, and building internal reporting systems.
The members of the Corporate Planning Division come from diverse backgrounds including public relations, tax, and recruitment, each bringing their unique strengths to the table. Leveraging my experience,
It sounds like a team of true professionals! Is there a project that stands out to you among those you've been involved with?
It was challenging to grasp and manage the extensive tasks in the initial stages. I worked with local consultants to identify tasks, prioritized them, and scheduled accordingly. Since it required local team members to act, I found key personnel and maintained close communication to ensure practical progress.
Clearly, determining who does what was crucial in your work. What projects did you handle in business process improvement?
I was responsible for implementing a new accounting system. The finance department approached us because they were handling tasks like financial reconciliation and invoice issuance manually. Given the numerous routine tasks in finance, I took on the role of evaluating what to implement and how to improve processes, contributing to efficiency improvements while consulting with the finance department.
Since joining Reazon about two years ago, the company has grown rapidly in terms of both staff numbers and scale. Areas that previously operated fine with personalized solutions now require process standardization to align with the company's expanding size. Moving forward, I aim to continue supporting business process improvements through system and tool implementations.
The environment where you can challenge anything simply by expressing your desire to try is the most appealing.
With the company expanding rapidly, there's certainly a lot to do. What do you find particularly appealing about being in Reazon's Corporate Planning Division?
The ability to collaborate with various people across departments like legal, finance, and business units is a significant draw. Instead of being limited to specific departments, I interact with diverse individuals in different ways depending on the project. Acting as a hub allows me to approach work with fresh perspectives each time, broadening my horizons and facilitating personal growth.
Given your role in solving various internal issues, collaboration must naturally arise. What do you find most rewarding about your work?
The opportunity to take on challenges with a mindset of "wanting to try" and "wanting to push boundaries." When I joined Reazon, I expressed interest in Web3.0 and blockchain-related businesses, and I was able to participate in meetings related to launching new ventures in this area. Discussing with team members about what can be achieved with blockchain technology, understanding its regulations, and how it operates has been enriching. Being able to tackle tasks that might not come around easily in larger corporations is a great source of satisfaction for me.
It's a truly Reazon-like story that welcomes individual challenges! Conversely, are there any current challenges you're facing?
Over the past year, I've mainly been focused on addressing immediate issues that require immediate responses. Looking ahead, I feel it's crucial to anticipate and address initiatives that the organization needs. Currently, I'm focusing on establishing a risk management framework. While significant issues haven't arisen yet, I believe it's essential to establish mechanisms proactively to enable smooth responses when needed. It's still a trial-and-error phase, but I'm listing necessary tasks and advancing organizational structure while consulting with superiors and executives.
I want to demonstrate my value, keeping up with the expanding organization's pace.
Indeed, being proactive in addressing challenges before they arise is important. With your extensive experience in various organizations, what do you think sets Reazon apart?
There are many aspects, but I particularly value the culture that allows for challenges and the flexibility to act promptly. In larger organizations, it often feels like it takes the effort of ten people to move one thing forward. At Reazon, once you logically present the need and gain consensus, you can swiftly take action. Additionally, there are many outstanding team members who foster such a culture, and I find value in seeing both the company and myself grow. I communicate with people from various departments and professions frequently, and everyone I speak with is someone I respect as a professional. I'm constantly stimulated in my work exchanges and feel I'm in an environment where I can learn a lot.
It's clear you appreciate the value of a flexible organization, especially given your diverse experiences! Finally, could you share your goals for the future?
Reazon has been growing significantly each year. I want to continue contributing as someone who can demonstrate my own value amidst this growth. As the organization, society, and market conditions change, so too will the knowledge we need to grasp. Simply maintaining the status quo won't keep up with Reazon's pace of growth, so I aim to keep my antenna up for information on new technologies and potential business opportunities and translate that into action as much as possible.
Your active involvement will undoubtedly contribute to making Reazon even better!
Thank you so much for your valuable time today!
